The Willard Grant Conspiracy MON NOV 8th - The Cluny Newcastle

Hey folks - we are playing another gig with The Willard Grant Conspiracy (Los Angeles, California) Monday Nov 8th at the Cluny

Uncut magazine has included WGC's Regard the End in the recent list of top 150 albums of the decade published in their magazine!

Heres a bit info taken from the Website...

Boston-based music group Willard Grant Conspiracy sure knows how to make a music critic's job tough. Whereas most bands can be blithely described with a few words, WGC practically requires a new genre tag. Stylistically, it's got strong folk-rock and rootsy overtones but isn't exactly Americana. Instead, WGC couches the disquieting angst of Nick Cave and Leonard Cohen in the baroque-like elegance of Belle & Sebastian at their most melancholic. Lead singer Robert Fisher's smooth, contemplative baritone has a winning straightforwardness mingled with world-weariness and suspicion. On the ditty "Flying Low," he croons, "And I dreamed I saw the angels flying low/They encompass all that's good, or so I'm told." The album is lent orchestral savor by the regal-sounding violin/viola of Josh Hillman and the yearning trumpet of guest Dennis Cronin. Rendering Roll more cathartic than depressing is WGC's occasional forays into wrenching rockin' dissonance à la Roxy Music and John Cale-era Velvet Underground. Dylan fans may not like the droll, thundering rendition of his "Ballad of a Thin Man." With WGC, it appears that glum is good. BROWARD NEW TIMES

Also playing on Monday evening are Sunderland based ensemble...RAINFALLDOWN

Rainfalldown was, at first, the pseudonym of South Shields-based singer/songwriter Martin Francis Trollope. He soon gathered a few fellow local musicians to try out his songs as a three-piece band but disbanded after a few performances. It was a number of disillusion-filled years later that the concept of a full live band emerged once more, thus conceiving a new rainfalldown. They now play live as much as they can and often venture out of the region showcasing their folk-inspired alternative rock to as many audiences as possible.

The band always variate with their live performances; their ever-growing assortment of instruments includes acoustic guitar, harmonica, mandolin, harmonium and glockenspiel with many more to be sought after, experimented with and brought into the fold. rainfalldown - open hearts, minds, doors and windows.

Welcome to We Are Simpleswan

Greetings from the nest.

Weve decided to begin a blog so people can keep updated with what is happening with Simpleswan and so we can keep up to date with ourselves.

Over the next few weeks we will be populating the blog with various bits and bobs - like an online scrapbook for people to view.

We hope you all keep in touch.

Chris and Aissa xx
